How do I update my speedstream firmware and connect my modem to Telstra or Optus?

Overview

Step 1:  Login to your speedstream modem
  1. Download the VoIP friendly speedstream firmware from here: packetman.com.au/dms/out/out.ViewFolder.php
  2. The Telstra and Optus firmwares are also in this folder if you need to revert back to the supported firmware .
  3. Save the file on your desktop
  4. Run the .exe file
  5. The following dialog box will appear
  6. Click on the update firmware



Step 2:  Unblock the windows firewall application
  1. The application will search for the device
  2. Allow the application to run if you have a software firewall .



Step 3:  Update the firmware
  1. The update will be successful
  2. Click OK.


Step 4:  Login to the speedstream modem
  1. Your network card will detect the new IP gateway address 192.168.254.254
  2. Enter the username: admin, and password: admin
  3. Click OK



Step 5:  Configure your ISP connection
  1. Go to the WAN INTERFACE config menu
  2. Enter VPI: 8, and VCI: 35
  3. Select VCMUX as the encapsulation type
  4. Select traffic class as " unspecified" and leave the other options
  5. Click Next





Step 6:  Select PPPoA encapsulation
  1. Select PPPoA
  2. Click Next




Step 7:  Enter your authentication details
  1. Enter your Bigpond username and password, likewise for optus customers
  2. Click Next





Step 8: Configure WAN options
  1. Leave all the default options
  2. Click Next




Step 9:  Enter a static IP (if necessary)
  1. Enter your static IP (most customers will not have this)
  2. Click Next




Step 10:  Enable Firewall
  1. Use Firewall select Yes:
  2. Use DoS protection select: Yes
  3. Enable NAPT
  4. Select Next



Step 11: Choose the connection name
  1. Enter the name you want for this connection
  2. Select Next



Step 12:  The wizard is finished
  1. The Wizard is now finished
  2. Select Finish




Step 13: Check the status of your connection
  1. Go to the PPP connection menu
  2. Hit connect ( it should say connected with the current WAN IP address you are connected to)
