Checking the Router’s Firmware

All Linksys firmware upgrades are posted on the Linksys website www.linksys.com where they can be downloaded for free. If the router is working well, there is no need to download a newer firmware version, unless that version contains new features that you would like to use. To determine your router’s current firmware version, you will need to access the router’s web-based setup page.

Overview

Step 1: Access the Linksys modem/router
  1. To access the web-based utility, launch Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, and enter the IP address http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field, then press Enter.
  2. Enter admin (the default user name) in the User Name field, and enter admin (the default password) in the Password field. Then click the OK button.
Step 2: Checking your firmware
  1. Go to the top right hand corner
  2.  Verify and check the firmware version.
